On 26th February, DFC finalised a $20,000 donation to the Australian Red Cross, being the proceeds from our company-wide Christmas fundraising campaign from 2024.
Dennis Family Group Director, Grant Dennis visited the charity’s new Melbourne head office at the Docklands to make a cheque presentation to Australian Red Cross Senior Manager – Philanthropic Giving, David Macdermott.
The Red Cross has allocated our donation this year to directly assist its Night Café in Brisbane, a unique service which supports young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.
Located beneath Brisbane’s Town Hall, the Night Café has been in existence for over 20 years and currently operates every Tuesday and Thursday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
The program is aided by the efforts of a team of approximately 50 volunteers and provides practical support on the ground as well as a range of connection services.
The Night Café provides young people in need with a nutritious hot meal, showers, and a sanctuary to relax. There are engagement activities and free clothing but, most importantly, there are people who will listen to those who want to talk.
Eighteen partner agencies attend the space to provide medical assessment, referral to support services, information on staying safe, or housing options.
David Macdermott expressed his gratitude to DFC for our longstanding support of the Red Cross and willingness to direct this year’s donation to the Night Café.
“I’d like to sincerely thank everybody at Dennis Family Corporation for the very generous support over past years and also again this year,” he said.
“The Night Café is an incredibly impactful program and it’s only with the continued generosity and support of people like yourselves that we can operate that service and help young people when they need it.”
Grant Dennis said that that DFC is proud of the company’s ongoing association with the Red Cross through the Christmas fundraising initiative.
“It’s our pleasure to continue our support of the Red Cross and we’re delighted that our $20,000 donation this year is going to support such a worthy cause as the Night Café in Brisbane,” he commented.
“We hope our donation helps the service continue to provide the wonderful work it does in assisting vulnerable young people who are in distress through a variety of circumstances.”
