Lake to become pride of the Manor

The Dennis Family Corporation today announced a major landscaping and beautification project to be undertaken at Manor Lakes in Wyndham Vale during 2014.

The project focuses on the estate’s natural centrepiece – Manor Lake – and its surrounding environs, with the enhancements to be concentrated on the lake’s northern perimeter where residential development has already occurred.

“This is another important milestone and further exciting news for the growing community at Manor Lakes,” said Dennis Family Corporation Chief Executive Officer, Peter Levinge.

“Manor Lake not only provides the source of the estate name, but also acts as the central point for connection to all present and future development within the Manor Lakes boundaries. The various initiatives we plan to undertake in this project have been designed to capitalise on the lake reserve’s potential to take pride of place within the estate,” Mr Levinge added.

Extensive grass and tree planting will occur in and around the lake precinct including sections of Lollypop Creek which feeds into Manor Lake. The planting program will involve a mix of native and exotic species, with quantities numbering approximately 20,000 in total. Trees intended for planting include the Spotted Gum, Red Gum, Yellow Box, Honey Locust, English Oak and Golden Robina.

The project aims to maximise the use of indigenous/native species wherever possible and to continue the theme of the successful regeneration and revegetation works that have already taken place at Manor Lakes.

Another major element of the project will be the creation of a main park adjacent to the lake, which will include a shelter, picnic tables and barbecue area.

A new concrete path will meander along the creek and provide connectivity to the lake and the existing shared pathway network. Lawn areas will be created and areas have been identified within the precinct for play/fitness equipment.

Works have recently commenced and are expected to be completed prior to the end this year.

“Our investment in this project will generate a significant natural asset for the whole Manor Lakes community,” Mr Levinge said.

“The planting program will attract further birdlife and help provide a more sustainable ecology, while the new passive recreation areas will become a great attraction for local residents to enjoy the outdoors space.”

Mr Levinge acknowledged the support and assistance the Dennis Family Corporation had received from Melbourne Water and Wyndham City Council.

“The co-operation of both Melbourne Water and Council has been vital in helping to bring this project to life,” he commented. “Council are currently finalising their agreement to the handover.”

Under the terms of the agreement, responsibility for the maintenance of the lake will transfer to Melbourne Water following a 2-3 year transitional period.

Designed as an ornamental feature, Manor Lake is not suitable for water craft activities or swimming, which will continue to be prohibited for safety reasons.

When full, the surface area of Manor Lake measures approximately 42,900 square metres, which equates to just over twice the size of the MCG.
